Podgorica short walking tour commences from the city centre and takes you to the old town. At a few minutes’ walk we will come across the Ottoman culture inspired monuments such as the Clock Tower and Osmanagica Mosque. From this point, you will visit one of the oldest zones in Podgorica, where the two rivers Ribnica and Moraca meet each other, before heading to the new part of the town, with its modern bridges, parks, monuments of old leaders and institutional buildings.
First, your guide will take you to the Old town – Stara Varos, where you will see cultural monuments of the Ottoman period and hear the legend of that time. You will have the chance to stand below one of the town symbol – 16 m tall Clock tower from the end of the 17 century. Then, as we will come across the old town you will have a chance to visit two famous local mosques – Osmanagica, and the Oldest Starodoganjska mosque.
As you leave the old town, you will pass through the remains of the Ottoman fortress from the 15th century, that will lead you to the confluence of the two river – Ribnica and Moraca. You will stand on the remains of the Roman town, and hear the story of the Podgorica from that period when it was an important center of the trading caravan route.
As you pass over the Ottoman stone bridge dating from 15thcentury and walk up the stairs you will come to the more modern town zone, known for the many buildings parks and bridges mostly built during communist Yugoslavia.
Your guide will take you over the boulevard where you will see the main country institution – Main Parliament and Government building, the monument of the King Nikola I Petrovic, so as the monument dedicated to Josip Broz Tito famous Yugoslavia communist leader positioned on the other side of the Moraca river. You will pass over the pedestrian bridge Gazela that will take you to the charming city park dedicated to Petar II Petrovic Njegos. After you hear about the achievements of the famous poet, philosopher, and leader, the guide will take you next to the National Theatre building, in direction of the main municipal building with monument of the local 19th-century duke and hero, and an interesting figure - Marko Miljanov Popovic.
You will finish the tour at the main city square – Independence square, where you will get additional tips from your guide on how to get around and feel as local.
