Situated 12 km away from Kotor (or how I like to call it – its “big brother”), Perast makes one of the most beautiful baroque settlements on Adriatic Coast, to visit, explore or simply have a coffee or lunch at.
Together with Kotor and its environment, Perast makes UNESCO World Heritage Site and attractive destination for all the people that are visiting Montenegro.
The look that town has today dates from 17th and 18th century, and the architecture is typical baroque – influenced by Venetians who ruled this Bay of Kotor for more than four hundred years.
Despite having only one main street, this tiny town boasts 16 churches and 17 formerly grand palaces. While some are just enigmatic ruins sprouting bougainvillea and wild fig, others are caught up in the whirlwind of renovation that has hit the town.
You could say that the main tour attraction this small town has is not on the land.
Just by doing the short boat ride, you will find yourself on amazing man-made island of Our Lady of the Rocks with the church as old as island - dedicated to “Our Lady”. It was build in the middle of 15th century, and from then on it became the most worshiped and respected place for all the people of Perast, especially for sailors who considered “Our Lady” as their protector.
